bookcase and sideboard in an historical property

When your client invites you back for a new project, you can only be grateful for contributing once again to their feeling at home through custom design.

Historical property

Historical property

Located in the historical center of Leiden, this 17th century property is packed with interesting details narrating centuries of history. The new furniture needed to harmonize with the historical details and at the same time with the previously designed kitchen

  • There was a wish for a spacious and functional bookcase, with plenty of space for books, precious items from travels abroad and enough closed storage space.
  • There was also the requirement for a sideboard with sufficient storage for kitchen items, recipe books and artwork.

While the kitchen was designed with a more traditional look in combination with modern features, the custom made furniture had to have a similar but slightly more modern look.

By following the colours and height lines of the kitchen the side board almost feels like an extension of this space. Yet by choosing a more modern design, the sideboard creates at the same time a subtle separation between kitchen and living space.

The bookcase is designed with the same look an feel as the sideboard. Here the height lines of the wonderful opening towards the kitchen is the guideline for this piece of furniture. Plenty of space for books and at the same time enough storage space for items you don’t necessarily want to have in sight is key to a functional design.

When your client is inviting you to take pictures of their new furniture and you encounter a bookcase in full use, you know they love it! One of the best unspoken compliment for me is when I enter a renovated and redesigned home and I immediately feel and see the characters and style preferences of the homeowners reflected in the total atmosphere of the house!

It means they feel at home.
